Football round-up: Real win, Juve snatch thriller
Saturday produced some breathtaking football across European leagues with plenty of joy for fans and neutrals alike. On an action-packed day, Real Madrid edged Leganes with Gareth Bale scoring in La Liga. Serie A leaders Juventus snatched a 3-2 thriller at San Siro. Roma prepared for Liverpool with a resounding victory. Chelsea won against Swansea in Premier League. Here is the round-up.
Bale scores as Real beat Leganes 2-1
Real closed in on 2nd placed Atletico in La Liga with a 2-1 victory against 10-man Leganes at the Santiago Bernabeu. Gareth Bale scored the opener in the 8th minute. Borja Mayoral then added the second at the stroke of half-time. Leganes rallied back with Brasanac equalizing in the 66th minute. But it wasn't enough in the end.
Juve stun Inter 3-2 with two late strikes
Inter Milan thought they had the game in their pocket with injury-time approaching. But Juve rallied and got two goals in three minutes with Gonzalo Higuain scoring the winner. 10-man Inter had battled hard after Douglas Costa scored for Juve early on. Inter lost a player through red card, before getting back to take the lead. Juve had the last laugh in the end.
Roma win big ahead of UCL 2nd leg
AS Roma thrashed Chievo 4-1 after riding through Edin Dzeko's brace. Despite being down to 10 men, Roma battled with precision and the victory will give them a huge boost ahead of the Champions League 2nd leg semi-final tie against Liverpool this week.
Chelsea fight for top four spot, Liverpool draw 0-0
Fifth placed Chelsea beat Swansea City 1-0 away from home to continue their recent run of form. Cesc Fabregas scored in the fourth minute itself as the Blues rallied to see off a determined Swans. The win helped them move within two points of Tottenham Hotspur. Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah missed the best chance to see Liverpool being held by Stoke City 0-0 at home.
Premier League relegation battle spices up
West Bromwich Albion's stunning recent form continued as they eked out an away 1-0 win at Newcastle. The Baggies are still bottom though with 28 points. Big winners were Southampton in 18th place as they moved to within one point of EPL safety. They beat Bournemouth 2-1 at home. Four teams are still in the battle for relegation with Swansea too in the mix.
