What Real Madrid need to do in 2019-20 season?
Spanish and European giants Real Madrid haven't had the best of starts in the 2019-20 season. They have looked dodgy in defense and that has been a routine affair in the first five matches this term. At the moment, manager Zinedine Zidane looks in a bit of pressure. Here's what they need to do in the 2019-20 season.
Real's story so far this season
Real are third in La Liga after two wins and two draws from matches so far. Somehow the consistency has been missing against not so big teams in the league. That was exposed in the UEFA Champions League group game against Paris Saint-Germain away from home. Real lost the match by a 0-3 margin and hardly threatened the hosts.
Real's defensive vulnerability an issue
Although it's too early in the season, Real have issues on the field across departments and Zidane needs to solve these problems. One major disappointment is the form of goalie Thiabut Courtois, who has lacked the cutting edge. The defense has been sloppy up till now. Interestingly, Real have conceded in all the five matches and nine goals have been shipped against them.
The mid-field looks short of depth and quality
Real's mid-field looks short in numbers after key departures and the lack of proper replacements can have an effect. The likes of Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Luka Mordric hold the fort as they have been doing over many years. But Real are thin in this department and is overloaded with attacking players. Zidane should perhaps use Isco more and fit him in mid-field.
Zidane needs to build his attacking force around Hazard
Despite having a bunch of talented named in the attacking third, Real failed to muster a single shot on target against PSG. This was simply baffling. Zidane has to find a way in order to make his attacking force work. Eden Hazard could go on to become the fulcrum of this side and it's natural the team should be build around him.
Bale could be Real's key man this season
Gareth Bale was on the verge of leaving the club after issues with Zidane. However, he stayed back and is now being trusted by the Frenchman to be a potent force. Bale has done well so far in producing a spark. As the season progresses, his presence will become important. To see Bale being key for Real this season will be a dreamy affair.
