#CoronavirusOutbreak: La Liga president reveals plan of European football leagues
La Liga president Javier Tebas has claimed that Europe's top football leagues are planning to restart in May 2020. All major football leagues were suspended earlier this month in wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Besides domestic leagues, the European competitions were also postponed. Tebas said the target is to start in May and finish things by June 30.
Euro 2020 was postponed, FA highlighted its priority
The Euro 2020 which was supposed to be held this summer but was postponed by a year in relation to the coronavirus pandemic. Following the move by UEFA, England's Football Association chief executive Mark Bullingham claimed "everyone's priority is to finish this season." FA announced last week that the season won't resume until April 30 at the earliest.
'In mid-May we should be able to be back'
Tebas expressed his views claiming in mid-May they should be able to resume the season. However, things depend on how the coronavirus pandemic evolves. "In mid-May we should be able to be back on with all European competitions," Tebas told Marca. "All of them. Of course, it depends on how the pandemic evolves."
UEFA has established a core committee
UEFA has established a core committee which comprises of Tebas, the Premier League and the European Club Association. This has also been tasked with drafting a calendar structure for continental leagues to follow when the season will be able to resume.
Tebas makes crucial claims regarding the Euro
In another interview with Spanish daily El Pais, when asked whether it is viable to finish all leagues by June 30, Tebas said: "Yes. UEFA's decision to postpone the Euros has been quite useful to try and bring the leagues to an end, but we were making plans on the football calendar even before the postponement of the Euros."
This is the date we've got in mind: Tebas
He also added that things can start before, however, mid-May is the period that they have got in mind. "It could be before, but that is the date we've got in mind about being able to resume."
