Sachin Tendulkar picks his 2019 World Cup XI: Details here
Former Indian legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar made his debut as a commentator in the ICC World Cup 2019. Interestingly, he was also a part of the award ceremony after the epic finale between England and New Zealand, where the former emerged as champions. Tendulkar has now picked his World Cup XI, and surprisingly five Indians feature in his team. Here are the details.
Tendulkar's World Cup XI: Williamson gets the nod as skipper
A look at Sachin Tendulkar's World Cup XI: Rohit Sharma, Jonny Bairstow (wicket-keeper), Kane Williamson (captain), Virat Kohli, Shakib Al Hasan, Ben Stokes, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Starc, Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer.
Five Indians in Tendulkar's World Cup XI
Tendulkar picked five Indians including Ravindra Jadeja, who played just two games. But perhaps his performance in those games was enough for Sachin to include him. Besides Jadeja, he also picked the leading run-scorer of CWC 19- Rohit Sharma. Indian captain Virat Kohli, who was decent with the bat, also found a place alongside all-rounder Hardik Pandya and pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
Humble Williamson the best skipper in modern day cricket
New Zealand's Kane Williamson (578) was selected as the skipper by most cricketers and pundits. He was terrific throughout the campaign and led the Kiwis with his head held high. Despite, not being considered as the favorites, Williamson helped Kiwis to reach the final. His side almost stunned England and forced a tie in both the match and super over, but it wasn't enough.
Here's the World Cup XI picked by ICC
Here's the World Cup XI we had selected
We had also named Williamson as the skipper of the World Cup XI. Although, our team was similar to that of ICC, but we opted for David Warner ahead of Jason Roy as the opener. Here's our pick: Rohit Sharma, David Warner, Kane Williamson (captain), Joe Root, Shakib Al Hasan, Alex Carey (wicket-keeper), Ben Stokes, Mitchell Starc, Jasprit Bumrah, Lockie Ferguson and Jofra Archer.
