#GamingBytes: Battlefield V's Battle Royale, Firestorm, will have 64 players
Battlefield V is the new addition to the massive war game franchise. It is scheduled to release on November 20. However, an even more anticipated component is Battlefield's take on the Battle Royale through its Firestorm mode. While Firestorm won't release till March 2019, the studio DICE, opened up about the number of players in this mode. Read it here.
Same game different developers
Battlefield V is being developed by DICE, whereas, its Battle Royale mode, Firestorm, is being handled by Criterion Games. Criterion created the critically acclaimed Burnout franchise. Despite having a different developer, Firestorm promises to include the unique vehicular warfare and destruction that sets Battlefield apart.
What did the developers say about the player count?
DICE's live service development director, Ryan MacArthur, said that they were currently targeting 64 players in the Battle Royale mode. Stressing on how Firestorm must 'feel like it's Battlefield', he said that it was important for them to deliver the unique experience of a Battlefield game, rather than trying to match the higher player counts of competing games like PUBG or Blackout.
Size does matter in Battle Royale
It is surprising, that Battlefield, a game famous for large maps, and large armies, encapsulating the authentic war experience, has decided to cap players at 64 for the Battle Royale. Notably, when asked whether the count would increase, they refused to reply. Nonetheless, with 64 players the Battle Royale will be more intense, and survival based, requiring greater tactical mindset than outright firefights.
