Justin Langer hints at handing ODI captaincy to Finch
Australia's head coach Justin Langer has hinted that T20I skipper Aaron Finch is in contention to be handed over the ODI captaincy, as well. The right-handed batsman has been in phenomenal form. Despite Australia losing the T20 tri-series final to Pakistan in Harare, Finch could take over the role as captain in both ODIs and T20Is.
Langer in awe of phenomenal Finch
"After this tour we'll have a really, really close look at everything we're doing at the moment including our leadership, which is such an incredibly high priority in Australian cricket. Finchy has definitely put his best foot forward in this series." Langer said.
Australia look to overcome England debacle
Before the T20 tri-series, Australia had nightmare of a tour in England where they were hammed 5-0 in the ODI series last month. Langer had then raised the concern that they have to figure out if Tim Paine was the right man to lead the side. Finch's recent performances with the bat are now making Langer consider him for the captain's role.
Finch recently set the world record score in T20Is
Finch was the leading run scorer in the recently concluded T20I tri-series between Zimbabwe, Pakistan and Australia. The right-handed batsman scored 306 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 201.31. He also set the record for the highest individual score in the format against Zimbabwe when he scored 172. Finch is only second to Zaman in terms of T20I runs in 2018.
