IPL 2019: Why did Shikhar Dhawan leave Sunrisers Hyderabad?
Sunrisers Hyderabad have sold southpaw Shikhar Dhawan to Delhi Daredevils in the ongoing IPL transfer window, ahead of the auction for the 2019 season. Dhawan, who was a prominent figure of the Orange Army for the last few seasons, will represent the franchise of his hometown Delhi. Dhawan had spent one season with Daredevils in 2008. Here's the real reason why Dhawan left Sunrisers.
SRH rope in three players in the exchange deal
SRH have roped in three players in exchange for the celebrated Dhawan. The 2016 champions got in the trio of Vijay Shankar, Abhishek Sharma and Shahbaz Nadeem. Dhawan, who played a key role in SRH's rise over the years, was unhappy with the money he was bought for via the Right to Match (RTM) card in 2018. Not being retained made Dhawan unhappy.
SRH explains the reason behind move
SRH hadn't retained Dhawan in 2018
Sunrisers had retained David Warner and Bhuvneshwar Kumar ahead of the 2018 auction. They used the RTM card and paid Rs 5.2 crore for Dhawan, but that unsettled the Indian player. Besides Dhawan, the franchise also used the RTM card for Rashid Khan and Deepak Hooda. The reason behind Dhawan's unhappiness was several players got better deals than him last season.
MI were keen to rope Dhawan as well
Earlier, according to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Mumbai Indians were keen on him. Dhawan was believed to have been involved in an argument with coach Tom Moody as well. The report had added that that Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma wanted to have Dhawan in the side. But Delhi were interested as well and they managed to get hold of the player.
