    What's the story

Argentina and Chile's World Cup qualification hopes were left hanging after both the teams slipped up once again.

Argentina were held to yet another frustrating 1-1 draw by already-eliminated Venezuela and are now fifth in the overall standings with 24 points from 16 games.

Chile crashed to a 1-0 defeat against Bolivia and are sixth with 23 points.

Meanwhile, Uruguay won 2-1 against Paraguay.

    Spain, Italy

Spain rout Liechtenstein, Italy win narrowly

Spain moved one step closer to booking their place in the World Cup by thrashing Liechtenstein 8-0.

Italy, on the other hand, won 1-0 over Israel, as Ciro Immobile scored the solitary goal.

Spain still remain three points clear at the top of Group G, with the Azzuris following closely.

However, Spain do have a healthy 17-goal advantage on goal difference over the Italians.

    Germany, England

Germany rout Norway, Marcus Rashford helps England to win

Germany routed Norway 6-0 as Timo Werner scored a double to help his team make it eight wins out of eight matches and top Group C.

In Group F, England conceded an early goal against Slovakia after a costly error by Marcus Rashford.

However, the youngster atoned in style by setting up the equaliser and then, scoring a spectacular 20-yard winner.

    Asian qualifiers

Syria extend fairytale run, South Korea through

War-torn Syria extended their fairy-tale run at the World Cup qualifiers with a 2-2 draw against Iran.

They were down 2-1 and heading out until the third added minute when Omar Al Soma's scored an incredible equaliser to help his team secure a spot in the Asian play-offs.

Meanwhile, South Korea grabbed an automatic qualifying spot in Group A after drawing 0-0 in Uzbekistan.
