    What's the story

    Defending champions Germany booked their spot in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, beating Northern Ireland 3-1, as England too sealed their World Cup berth in a tepid 1-0 victory over Slovenia.

    This was Germany's 9th win in the matches played in the European qualifiers.

    Sebastian Rudy, Sandro Wagner, and Joshua Kimmich contributed to Germany's goals, while Harry Kane fired the late England winner.

    How many teams have qualified so far?

    As it stands, 10 teams qualified for the 2018 World Cup: Host nation Russia, Belgium, Germany, and England from Europe, Brazil from South America, Mexico from the North, Central and Caribbean group, Iran, Japan, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia from Asia.

    Argentina in danger of missing out the World Cup

    After their latest goalless draw against Peru at home, Messi's Argentina face a threat of missing 2018 World Cup.

    The result places Argentina 6th on the South American group, with 25 points.

    With only one match left, the qualification fight will go right down to the wire and Argentina's fate is left hanging on their result against Ecuador, in conjunction with other teams' outcomes.

    CONMEBOL qualification

    Only top 4 placed teams directly qualify for the World Cup from CONMEBOL, the South American qualifying group. The 5th placed team will proceed to play-off New Zealand for a berth in the WC.

    In the Europe group, Poland beat Armenia 6-1, Czech republic defeated Azerbaijan 2-1, Norway beat San Marino 8-0, Denmark beat Montenegro 1-0, Romania beat Kazakhstan 3-1, Scotland defeated Slovakia 1-0, while Malta vs Lithuania ended in 1-1 draw.

    In CONMEBOL, Bolivia vs Brazil, and Venezuela vs Uruguay ended in goalless draws, while there were 2-1 wins for Chile, Paraguay over Ecuador and Colombia respectively.
