Uruguay sweat over Edinson Cavani
Uruguay's 31-year-old striker Edinson Cavani's injury situation has become a cause of concern for his side. Uruguay will lock horns with France in the quarters. Cavani limped off the pitch against Portugal and immediately signalled the bench that he needs to be substituted. Coach Oscar Tabarez said that he is worried about Cavani, who scored two goals against the 2016 European Championship winners.
James Rodriguez boost for Colombia
Colombia forward James Rodriguez could be fit to play against England on Tuesday in their round-of-16 encounter. The player missed out on training and there were concerns over his availability against the Three Lions. Rodriguez underwent scans, which showed his injury isn't serious as there is no muscle tear. It comes as a boost to Colombia, which would be bolstered by his presence.
Mascherano retires from international football
Argentina mid-fielder Javier Mascherano has retired from international football post his side's loss against France. Argentina lost 3-4 against France in the round-of-16 on Saturday. The 34-year-old former Barcelona player has made 145 appearances for Argentina. He stated after the match that it's over for him and he is now just another fan of the national team.
Modric is from different planet, says Rakitic
Croatian mid-fielder Ivan Rakitic praised his countryman Luka Modric saying that he is from a different planet. The Real Madrid player has scored twice for the Croats and Rakitic feels that Modric boasts of qualities which Iniesta has and rated the duo as the best.
