3 managers who could replace Hierro as Spain coach
Fernando Hierro has stepped down as the coach of Spain after leading them on a temporary basis at the FIFA World Cup 2018. Spain exited the tournament after they were knocked out by Russia via a penalty shoot-out in the round-of-16 fixture. Hierro had replaced Julen Lopetegui, who had left his post a couple of days before the tournament. Who can now replace Hierro?
Luis Enrique looks like the best bet
Luis Enrique left Barcelona in 2017 and is on a break. He is eyeing a return to coaching and Spain could be tempted to bring him on board. He won the Champions League and La Liga with Barcelona FC and he could be a great fit since his playing style will suit the European giants. The new challenge will also be good for Enrique.
Antonio Conte of Chelsea
Reportedly, the Chelsea boss could be sacked by Chelsea despite returning to pre-season duty, and if that happens, an option opens up for Spain. Conte is not new to international coaching after having earlier managed Italy. The Italian won the Premier League and the FA Cup in his two years with Chelsea. He could galvanize the Spain squad, which disappointed in Russia.
Zinedine Zidane an outside chance?
The Frenchman left Real Madrid after two and a half years in charge and is free at the moment. Zidane showed his prowess after winning three successive Champions League titles and one La Liga with Real, besides a host of other trophies. He also has the knowledge about how Spain play their football. But can he be lured by Spain? Will he come?
