A look at fastest Indian batters to 2,500 ODI runs
What's the story
India's vice-captain, Shubman Gill, slammed a historic century in the 3rd and final ODI against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Gill's scintillating knock saw him complete 2,500 runs in ODI cricket. He has broken the record of South Africa's Hashim Amla, who got to this mark in 53 innings.
Here are fastest Indian batters to 2,500 ODI runs (by innings).
#1
Shubman Gill: 50 innings
As mentioned, Gill is now the fastest-ever batter to 2,500 runs in ODI cricket. The Indian batter reached this milestone in just 50 innings.
No other batter has touched the 2,500-run mark in 50 or fewer innings.
Gill now has 2,587 runs at an incredible average of 60.16, the highest among batters with 50-plus games. His tally includes seven tons and 15 half-centuries.
#2
Shreyas Iyer: 59 innings
In Ahmedabad, Gill went past Shreyas Iyer in terms of fastest Indian batters to 2,500 ODI runs.
The latter unlocked this achievement in the preceding Cuttack ODI against England. He took just 59 innings for the same.
Iyer, who made his debut in 2017, has evolved into a dependable batter in the middle order. He owns 2,602 runs from 65 ODIs at 48.18.
#3
Shikhar Dhawan: 60 innings
Before Iyer, former batter Shikhar Dhawan held the top spot among Indians on this elite list. He completed 2,500 ODI runs in his 60th innings.
Dhawan, who retired from international cricket last year, was once India's mainstay opener alongside Rohit Sharma. The duo scored runs aplenty together across formats.
Dhawan retired with 6,793 runs from 167 ODIs at 44.11 (17 hundreds).
#4
KL Rahul: 63 innings
KL Rahul, India's another prolific batter, occupies the fourth sport on this list. The star batter completed 2,500 ODI runs in 63 innings.
In a career spanning nearly a decade, Rahul has racked up 2,903 runs from 80 ODIs at an average of 47.59. His tally includes seven tons and 18 half-centuries.
Rahul will bolster India's middle order in the impending ICC Champions Trophy.
