A look at fastest balls bowled in IPL history
Lucknow Super Giants seamer Mayank Yadav has been a revelation in the ongoing Indian Premier League edition. Mayank clocked over 150 KPH on his IPL debut on numerous occasions. He nearly touched the 157kph-mark in his second game. He evoked the memories of a young Umran Malik, who bowled with similar bravado two seasons ago. Here are the fastest balls bowled in IPL history.
Shaun Tait: 157.71 KPH, IPL 2011
Former Australian pacer Shaun Tait is known for his express pace in international cricket. He still holds the record for bowling one of the fastest deliveries in international cricket. Tait, who could bowl at over 155 KPH consistently, weaved his magic in the 2011 IPL season. Representing Rajasthan Royals, Tait bowled a 157.71 KPH thunderbolt in a match against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).
Gerald Coetzee: 157.4 KPH, IPL 2024
Earlier this month, South African pace sensation Gerald Coetzee entered the record books with a searing delivery in IPL 2024. Playing in his maiden season, Coetzee clocked 157.4 KPH for Mumbai Indians against RR. Notably, all-rounder Riyan Parag was on the receiving end. The former broke Mayank's record for bowling the season's fastest delivery, set days ago.
Lockie Ferguson: 157.3 KPH, IPL 2022
In IPL 2022, New Zealand's Lockie Ferguson and India's Umran Malik were making waves for their thunderous spells. The former bowled the fastest ball of the season for Gujarat Titans in the grand finale against Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad. Ferguson's 157.3 KPH screamer stunned Jos Buttler. Later, GT defeated RR to win the title in their inaugural season.
Umran Malik: 157 KPH, IPL 2022
Before the IPL 2022 final, Indian pacer Umran held the record for bowling the season's fastest ball. He bowled a 157 KPH snorter in the 20th over against Delhi Capitals in Mumbai. Although Umran leaked over 40 runs in the match, he broke the barrier with his bowling speeds. Notably, Umran kept on touching the 155kph-mark throughout the season.
Mayank Yadav: 156.7 KPH, IPL 2024
Mayank Yadav made a breath-taking IPL debut this season against Punjab Kings. He entered the record books by taking away the Player-of-the-Match award in his first two games. Mayank delivered the fastest ball (155.8 KPH) in IPL 2024 against PBKS. He later broke his record by clocking 156.7 KPH against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
