2019 IPL auction: Will Chennai Super Kings buy Yuvraj Singh?
Fans of the IPL champions, Chennai Super Kings have an interesting demand from their management. They wish to see Yuvraj Singh join MS Dhoni for the next season of the league. The southpaw was released by Kings XI Punjab in the trade window and will be available in the auction, to be held in December. Will Chennai go ahead and buy Yuvi? We decode.
Yuvraj had struggled with his form and fitness
Yuvraj was a long servant of the Indian cricket team before losing his place in the side in 2017. The champion all-rounder has failed to deliver consistent performances in the last few years. Further, his fitness also remains a concern. He had a disastrous IPL 11 season with KXIP, after being acquired for Rs. 2 crore. But fans still have faith in Yuvi.
Both Yuvraj and MS have given us memories
Yuvraj and Dhoni were part of the brilliant partnership against England in the 2007 World T20, where the former hit six sixes in an over. The two were also magnificent against England in an ODI in 2017. Yuvi had smashed 150 and Dhoni managed to score 134 in a brilliant 256-run stand in Cuttack. Fans feel the duo can still give them match-winning performances.
Settled CSK do not require major addition
CSK have a settled side and they do not require any major addition to the squad in the auction. The defending champions released just three fringe players and it remains to be seen if they add anybody. CSK bore the fruit of a brilliant strategy in the 2018 auction. Same cannot be said about KXIP, which need another overhaul after releasing so many players.
Yuvi was below-par last season
Yuvi was below-par in IPL 2018. He looked like a shadow of himself. He did not help KXIP's cause in the matches he played. In 8 matches, Yuvraj amassed 65 runs and slowed down proceedings. Yuvraj would most likely be ignored by the franchises. In the last couple of seasons, he hasn't been able to cement his place in the teams, he has represented.
CSK unlikely to go for Yuvraj
Despite the consistency that has deserted a match winner like Yuvraj, CSK fans are still vouching for his inclusion in the squad. Although it is unlikely that a move like this would happen, but fans took to Twitter to demand the same from CSK's management.
