The father-son relationship is a special bond. Across sports, there have been sportsmen who have been coached, by their fathers, to success. From Yuvraj Singh to Andre Agassi, their fathers played an important role in their lives during formative years. On Father's day, we take a look at the sportsmen who were managed by their fathers.
Andre Agassi's father was his first coach
Andre Agassi is one of the greatest tennis players of all time. The 8-time Grand Slam winner Andre Agassi's success, in some way, can be attributed to his father's (Emmanuel Agassi) determination. His father coached him for a period of 13 years. Although he did not win a Slam under his father's tutelage, it definitely shaped up his career.
Zidane has been a big influence for his sons
Former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane helped both of his sons make their careers in football. The Frenchman won a plethora of trophies with Real as a manager and he assured that his sons got opportunities after they impressed with B teams. Younger son Luca Zidane made his debut against Villarreal in 2017-18 season. His elder son Enzo was also coached by Zidane.
Arjun Tendulkar has come off age
Former Indian legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar may not be the conventional coach of son Arjun. But he has been a mentor to the U-19 cricketer since years. Tendulkar has often been seen giving valuable tips to his teenager son and has been in the net sessions with him. Arjun has been called up to the U-19 Indian squad recently.
Johan Cruyff was influential in son's early career
The influence of Johan Cruyff in football was immense and the former Barcelona coach impacted his son's career. Cruyff handed his son Jordi the Barcelona cap in 1994. He went on to score nine goals in his debut season. Jordi felt the pressure on his shoulders and although he did not go on to become a star, the guidance was vital for him.
Yuvi's father shaped him to achieve success
Yuvraj Singh's stature as a match-winner grew with time. However, his talent was spotted early on by his father Jograj. Yuvraj stated his father helped him become a better cricketer. Jograj Singh was a strict coach during Yuvi's formative years. Yuvraj played a defining role in India's World Cup win in 2011, besides the successful campaign of World T20 in 2007.
