Faf du Plessis completes 4,500 runs in IPL: Key stats
Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis has completed 4,500 runs in the Indian Premier League. The veteran T20 ace got to the milestone with his sixth run against Delhi Capitals in Match 62 of the IPL 2024 season on Sunday. Earlier this month, du Plessis completed 10,000 runs in T20 cricket. He also went past 1,500 IPL runs for RCB.
A new milestone for du Plessis
Playing his 143rd IPL match, du Plessis managed six runs from seven balls. Delhi Capitals pacer Mukesh Kumar dismissed the former. He now has 4,500 runs (136 innings). He averages 36 and his strike rate is 136.40. Du Plessis became the 13th batter and the fourth overseas player with this milestone. The South African batter owns 36 fifties in the cash-rich league.
His journey in IPL
Du Plessis started his IPL journey in 2012, with Chennai Super Kings. With each passing season, he grew in stature as a batter. To date, he has remained CSK's third-highest IPL run-scorer, with 2,721 runs from 92 matches at 35.33. Du Plessis played for RPS in 2016 and 2017 as CSK received a two-year ban. He then returned to CSK before joining RCB.
4th RCB player to own over 1,500-plus runs
Du Plessis is one of the four players to smash 1,500-plus runs for RCB. The likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle are above him in terms of runs. Du Plessis owns 1,565 runs in 43 matches for RCB at 38.17. He owns 14 fifties. In the ongoing season, du Plessis has smashed 367 runs at 28.23.
