Former Maharashtra cricketer dies while trekking in Igatpuri
Former Maharashtra Ranji player Shekhar Gawli, on Wednesday, was found dead after falling into the valley while trekking in Igatpuri. Reportedly, the 45-year-old had been missing since Tuesday. Gawli, who was the fitness coach of Maharashtra Under-23 cricket team, went for a tour in the Igatpuri region of Nashik, where the incident took place. Here is more on the unfortunate event.
MCA informed about the incident on Twitter
The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) mourned the death of Gawli on Twitter. "In a tragic incident our former player and current Trainer of Maharashtra team Shekhar Gawli, passed away tragically. Our condolences to his family and friends. We are all with his family in this tragic situation. May his soul rest in peace," said the state cricket body.

How did the incident take place?
According to several reports, Gawli slipped while trekking and fell into a huge valley. The incident occurred in the evening, while the search for him started after that. Initially, the locals searched for him, however, emergency services were called when he was not found. The administration informed that the search had to be stopped due to lack of visibility.
Gawli's body was found on Wednesday
The search resumed on Wednesday morning, following which, his body was recovered. However, the search team is yet to certify the reason for his death. As per reports, Shekhar Gawli was clicking a picture, standing on a tall stone when he slipped and fell into the gorge. "The body will be handed over to the family members after post-mortem," an official told PTI.
Gawli represented Maharashtra in two Ranji games
Having represented Maharashtra in two Ranji matches, Gawli took three wickets. The former leg-spinner later served as the assistant coach of the Maharashtra cricket team and the fitness trainer of the Under-23 team.
