Europa League 2018-19: All records broken from last night's fixtures
The European nights are always special, as these are matches we do not get to see often, and the Europa League fixtures, last night, were special. Arsenal drew their match with Sporting Lisbon, as Chelsea won 1-0 against BATE. Other interesting fixtures included AC Milan facing off with Real Betis and Bayer hosting FC Zurich. Read about the records broken.
Arsenal could not find the goal against Sporting
Welbeck suffered an injury last night, as this became the second ever encounter where Arsenal could not score under Unai Emery. Sporting Lisbon did not manage a single shot on target in the match as they similarly did in their home match against Arsenal. This match makes it the first time since 2007-08 that Arsenal have managed clean sheets in three consecutive European matches.
Chelsea won their away match against BATE Boristov
BATE have hosted English sides only thrice in their history. Interestingly, they have lost all the homes against English sides, Chelsea (2018), Everton (2009) and Arsenal (2017). Sarri has created another record for himself by winning all ten of the Europa League group-stage matches, as a manager. The only goal came from Olivier Giroud, his first one since scoring against Liverpool in May.
Results from other matches
Bayer won 1-0 against FC Zurich with a goal from Tin Jedvaj as Real Betis drew their home match against AC Milan despite having 65% possession throughout the length of the match. Celtic managed a 2-1 victory against RB Leipzig.
