Europa League, Barcelona 1-1 Napoli: List of records broken
Barcelona played out a 1-1 draw versus Napoli in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League round of 32 clash at the Camp Nou. Barca, who were knocked out of the Champions League earlier, will travel to Naples next for the second leg. Piotr Zielinski gave the Italian side a 1-0 lead before Ferran Torres converted a penalty. Here's more.
How did the match pan out?
Barca fell behind in the first half when Piotr Zielinski drove in for Napoli in the 29th minute. The hosts were awarded a penalty in the second half by VAR after Adama Traore's cross hit Juan Jesus' hand. Former Manchester City winger Ferran Torres stepped up to convert the same. Torres had earlier missed a big chance when the game was goalless.
Why does this story matter?
The round of 32 sees teams demoted from the Champions League face second-placed side in the UEL group stage face each other. The winners will progress to the round of 16 where they will face the eight winners of the UEL group stage. Barca are still in this tie but will need something more profound to oust Napoli.
Unwanted records for Barca; Torres shines
Barcelona have now failed to win three of their four home games in Europe this season, including the Champions League. Barcelona have now failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last five games at Camp Nou. Torres has either scored or assisted in four of his last five games for Barcelona in all competitions (G2 A2).
Torres scripts this record
As per Opta, Torres is the 50th different player to score on his European debut for Barcelona (in major European competition - excluding qualifiers). He has netted his first penalty goal in 146 games across competitions.
Rangers thrash Dortmund 4-2
Rangers are on the verge of making it to the round of 16, beating Dortmund 4-2. The visitors stunned the German side when James Tavernier's penalty was followed by Alfredo Morelos' tap-in. John Lundstram scored the third before Jude Bellingham replied instantly. Dan-Axel Zagadou's own-goal restored the three-goal lead as Raphael Guerreiro pulled one back.
