#GamingBytes: Epic Games Store for Android to bring exclusive apps
Epic Games Store was launched in December 2018 to give Steam competition. The store, which can be accessed by PC and Mac users, made a big entry by giving out a free game every two weeks. Naturally, mobile gamers were excited to know when it would be arriving on other platforms. Now they can rejoice as this store will arrive on Android in 2019.
Epic is giving Steam stiff competition in their own business
Valve's Steam is the most notable online game store and Epic is trying to give it competition. The free giveaway of games gives Epic an edge, as it plans to continue with it in 2019 too. At its current pace of a game, every two weeks, it will be giving out 25 games. Its first two free games are Subnautica and Super Meat Boy.
No fixed date for launch, but founder confirms news
The Epic Games Store is expected to arrive on Android later in 2019. Founder of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney confirmed the news in an interview with Game Informer. Sweeney was clear in outlining his plans for the store's expansion. He also announced his intentions of launching an Epic Games Store on iOS, but added he is running into conflict due to Apple's present policy.
Besides 'Fortnite', Epic Games Store to have exclusive games
Once the Epic Games Store launches on Android, its most popular game Fortnite will obviously be made available. However, gamers should also be expecting a few exclusive applications and games that will only be available on Epic's store. This comes after Sweeney's decision to fund developers so that they launch their games exclusively on the Epic store.
Could Epic Games Store give its Google counterpart serious competition?
Epic Games Store arrival to Android might make gamers happy but spells trouble for Google Play Store. Reports suggest Epic will demand 12% revenue-cut from developers as it does on its PC store. This is much lower than Google's 30% cut, which Sweeney had criticized when the mobile version of Fortnite was launched. This coupled with Epic's content could give Play Store serious competition.
