Joe Root, Jos Buttler to represent Sydney Thunder in BBL
English cricket fans will be excited to see two of the nation's finest players Joe Root and Jos Buttler participating in the Big Bash League in Australia. Root hasn't played in any international global T20 League till date. Jos, on the other hand, played for Thunder in 2017-18 and was also a part of Rajasthan Royals set-up in 2018. Here are the updates.
Root was overlooked in 2018 IPL
Root wasn't picked by any of the eight IPL franchises this year. Surprisingly, the player went unsold in the IPL auction. Root has only featured in 61 T20 matches in his career, both international and domestic cricket combined. 33 of these matches have come for Yorkshire. It's an interesting choice by the Thunder management to go for Root, given his lack of experience.
A look at Buttler's T20 prowess
Jos Buttler was impressive for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2018. He amassed 500+ runs and helped them reach the play-offs. The wicket-keeper batsman also won the IPL title with Mumbai Indians in 2017. He hit important knocks of 67 and 81 for Thunder in BBL's last season. Earlier, he had played five matches for the Renegades in 2013-14. Jos is a perfect addition.
Duo are expected to play at least 7 matches
The duo are expected to play at least seven matches in the first-half of the BBL season. England play their last international match in November and have a break in the month of December. They will tour West Indies from January to March next year. The schedule of the new BBL season hasn't been announced yet. Meanwhile, Shane Watson will captain the Thunder.
