James Anderson given a 6-week break to nurse shoulder injury
England's pace spearhead James Anderson has been given a six-week break from all cricketing activities to ensure he is entirely fit for the upcoming series against India. The 35-year-old will use the time to nurse his longstanding right-shoulder injury before the much-anticipated Test series against Virat Kohli and company. Anderson is England's all-time leading wicket-taker in Tests. Here's more!
Anderson to miss two County Championship matches
James Anderson has claimed 540 wickets in 138 Tests. He will now miss Lancashire's next two County Championship matches due to this 6-week break. The Test series against India will begin from August 1. England are making sure that Anderson does not play any international white ball cricket before the series. This way, he will remain fully fit for the series.
England are concerned about Anderson's fitness
"We have five Tests against India in a six-week period from August 1, which will be an intense and challenging period for all our bowlers. Therefore it's vital that we ensure Jimmy goes into that series in the best possible condition," coach Trevor Bayliss said.
Anderson has a recurring shoulder problem
Anderson suffered a stress fracture in his shoulder in 2016. It has continued to create problems for James. The pacer has mentioned in the past that it hurts even while brushing his teeth or putting on a shirt. Anderson was last seen in action against Pakistan in the recently drawn two-match Test series where he had overall figures of 9-172.
