India overcome England in 1st T20I: Here're the records broken
Kohli-led Team India thrashed England by eight wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match T20I series. Riding on a superb 5-wicket spell from Kuldeep Yadav and a scintillating ton from KL Rahul, India were too hot for England to handle. In pursuit of 160 runs, India chased down the target with 10 balls to spare. Here are records broken in this fixture.
KL Rahul in a different dimension
KL Rahul saw himself being promoted to number three in place of Virat Kohli and he did not disappoint. The stylish batsman struck his 2nd T20I ton as he remained unbeaten on 101 and guided India home. His innings was laced with 10 fours and 5 sixes. He shared a 123-run stand with Rohit. This was the 5th hundred by Indian batsmen in T20Is.
Kohli fastest to 2,000 T20I runs
Virat Kohli became the fastest to reach the 2,000-run mark in T20Is. The 29-year-old achieved the feat in his 56th innings. Interestingly, he had also been the fastest to 1,000 T20I runs (27 innings). Kohli scored an unbeaten 20 and hit a single six in his innings. Kohli now has 2012 runs, as he became the 4th batsman to reach the 2000-run mark.
Kuldeep Yadav stars as wrist spin dominates
Kuldeep Yadav delivered his career-best 5/24 in T20Is to decimate England. He became the third Indian bowler to record a five-wicket haul for India in this format after Yuzvendra Chahal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He became the first bowler to get two batsmen stumped off successive deliveries in T20Is. He also became the second bowler in T20Is to take a fifer on English soil.
Jos Buttler lone hero for England
In-form England wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler struck another fine fifty to help England get to 159/8. He scored a 46-ball 69 after slamming eight fours and two sixes. This was Buttler's 12th fifty+ score in his last 16 innings across all formats. He overtook Kevin Pietersen (1,176) to become the third highest run-scorer for England in T20Is. He now has 1,199 runs.
Stat attack - England vs India, 1st T20I
Buttler became the sixth English player to score 5000+ runs in T20 cricket across all competitions. MS Dhoni surpassed Pakistan's Kamran Akmal to register the most stumpings in T20Is (33). Kuldeep joined Yuzvendra Chahal to clinch three consecutive 3-wicket hauls in T20Is for India. This was India's seventh successive win in this format.
