All about about 1st ODI England and Australia
Australia will be hoping to move on from the ball-tampering scandal, when they take on England in first of the five ODIs. On the other hand, Eoin Morgan-led England would look to play their aggressive brand of cricket at the Oval on Wednesday. Aussies have won both their tour matches and would be looking to start well. Here's our pre-match report.
Number one side England go in as favorites
England are ranked number one in the ICC ODI list and go in as the favorites against a David Warner and Steve Smith-less side. The last time these two sides met in an ODI series in Australia earlier this year, England thrashed Aussies 4-1. Therefore, it is crucial for Tim Paine's side to gain momentum from the very beginning. An interesting battle lies ahead.
What have the captains said?
England come from a big loss against Scotland, a few days back and Morgan feels there is still a lot left to learn. He hopes that the weaknesses of his side are exposed so that it helps England stay in contention for the World Cup in 2019. Tim Paine stated that the Aussies will be judged solely on their actions going forward.
Key players going into the tie
For Australia, Andrew Tye and Aaron Finch hold the aces for Wednesday's match. The duo were exceptional in the previous series between these two sides and Tye also had an excellent IPL 2018 campaign. For England, Jonny Bairstow will be hoping to build on his recent ODI form. Further, IPL 2018 hero Jos Buttler could add firepower.
