Players who could make a difference for England in Russia
England last won the FIFA World Cup way back in 1966, and since then the quest is on for the second world title. Despite boasting the best football league in the world, English footballers somehow tend to disappoint at the grand stage. However, this time around they are hoping things will be different. Here are the key players for the Three Lions.
Manchester City's Raheem Sterling
City's Sterling has had the best season of his career so far, and the Manchester City forward will be hoping to carry that same form into Russia. In 52 appearances this season, Sterling has found the back of the net 24 times while setting his team-mates up on 12 occasions. He has two goals for England and will look to improve that tally.
Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane
Harry Kane is proving to be England's most celebrated striker since Alan Shearer. The Spurs striker was Premier League's top scorer in 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons and narrowly missed out on the 'Golden Boot' this term. Named England's captain for the 2018 World Cup, Kane will be looking to lead from the front with his goal scoring exploits.
Chelsea's Gary Cahill
England do not have a great defensive mid-fielder which adds a lot of pressure on the back-line. Chelsea's Gary is the most experienced defender in this England setup, and he will have a vital role to play in organizing the defense of the Three Lions. However, Cahill's lack of game time with Chelsea this season could be a cause for concern.
