As per ESPNcricinfo, Root has now become the player with the most POTS awards for England in Tests. The talisman has been a run-scoring machine for Brits since his Test debut in 2012. Having played 146 Test matches, Root has scored 12,402 runs at 50.62 (100s: 34, 50s: 64). Root's tally of 13 Player-of-the-Match awards is also the most for an Englishman in Tests.
Andrew Strauss - 5
One of England's finest openers and captains in Test cricket, Andrew Strauss received the honor five times. Having played exactly 100 Tests, Strauss retired with 7,037 runs at an average of 40.91 with 21 hundreds and 27 fifties to his name. As a captain, he led England to 24 wins and 15 draws in 50 Tests.
Graham Gooch - 5
In Graham Gooch, we have another legendary England opener on this list. He has five POTS awards to show in the longest format alongside nine POTM honors. Overall, Gooch made his presence felt with 8,900 runs across 118 Tests for England at 42.58. He hit 20 tons and 46 fifties. Notably, six of his Test tons came at the iconic Lord's.
