James Anderson to train at Manchester City: Details here
England fast bowler James Anderson is set to train at Premier League football club Manchester City in order to recover from an injury that has threatened his career. The European club has agreed Anderson can train at their Etihad campus, making use of the world-class facilities and medical staff. Anderson hopes to be fit in order to make a sound return. Here's more.
Anderson to train at City for the next two months
The arrangement will see Anderson train at City for the next two months. The veteran pacer will be accompanied by England's head of strength and conditioning Rob Ahmun. Anderson and Ahmun met with City's head of sports science Sam Erith on Tuesday. According to the BBC, a source close to England and Wales Cricket Board described the meet as "a collaboration".
'It is about a change of scene for Jimmy'
"It is about a change of scene for Jimmy, but also a way of tapping into some of the best facilities and experts in the world," the insider told BBC.
Anderson missed Ashes 2019 remainder after injury
England's leading Test wicket-taker, Anderson, missed the bulk of the Ashes series with a calf complaint. He managed only four overs in the first Test against Australia at Edgbaston and didn't feature after that. Anderson is said to be eyeing the tour of South Africa starting in mid-December, for a four-Test series over Christmas and New Year. It's a crucial phase for the talisman.
Not the first Premier League club to help Anderson train
This isn't the first time Anderson will train at a Premier League club. Last year he spent time at Burnley during the off-season, having been invited to train there by manager Sean Dyche.
