Heather Knight to lead England in Women's T20 World Cup
Heather Knight is set to lead England in the 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup, set to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in October. England unveiled their 15-member squad for the upcoming tournament on August 27. The team includes Freya Kemp and Bess Heath, along with Danielle Gibson who is making her first World Cup appearance. However, fast bowler Lauren Filer did not secure a spot in the team.
Kemp and Heath to participate in Ireland tour
In addition to their World Cup duties, all-rounder Kemp and wicket-keeper Heath are also slated for next month's white-ball tour of Ireland. Kate Cross will lead a team largely comprised of players not participating in the World Cup. The tour includes three ODIs and two T20Is, potentially featuring several new faces.
A blend of experience and youth
England have been preparing for the Women's T20 World Cup for the past 18 months, resulting in a squad that balances experience with fresh talent. Sophia Dunkley retained her place above Tammy Beaumont, despite Beaumont leading Welsh Fire to The Hundred final. Linsey Smith is back in the T20I side after a hiatus since 2019, serving as an alternate spinner to Sophie Ecclestone, Charlie Dean, and Sarah Glenn.
