Ben Stokes given Professional Cricketers' Association award for brilliant summer
England cricket superstar Ben Stokes had an excellent summer. The all-rounder helped England win the ICC World Cup 2019 and then his performances saw the side draw the Ashes series. And now Stokes has been voted Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA) player of the year. The player stood out with a series of consistent performances. Here's more on the same.

Stokes stood out for England in CWC 19 and Ashes
The 28-year-old stood out for England in the World Cup and played a decisive role in the final against New Zealand to win the trophy for his side. He kept on producing the goods which helped his side keep up with the momentum. Stokes once again was England's best player in The Ashes 2019. His remarkable unbeaten 135 at Headingley was a real gem.

"You take a lot of personal pride when you receive this award because it's your peers that vote for you," he said to the BBC. "Earning this award is a huge moment and something I am very gracious of."
Stokes was at his best in the 2019 World Cup
Stokes scored an impressive 465 runs in 11 matches in the 2019 World Cup. He struck five fifties at an average of 66.42. Stokes scored 84* in the World Cup final, reviving England's hopes against New Zealand. He also impressed in the tie-breaking super over. With the super over being tied, England took the trophy home because they had hit more boundaries.
Stokes was England's best player in Ashes 2019
Stokes was England's highest run-scorer in Ashes 2019 series. He amassed 441 runs at 55.12. He struck two hundreds and two fifties which included the match-winning knock at Headingley. Stokes helped England pull off a stunner in the third Ashes Test.
'What we did as a team in 2019 is phenomenal'
Stokes highlighted England's brilliance. "What we have done as a team in 2019 is phenomenal. To win the CWC and draw the Ashes has been a fantastic summer and something I am proud of personally and as a team." Meanwhile, 20-year-old Somerset batsman Tom Banton was voted young player of the year. Whereas, Sophie Ecclestone was named as the women's player of the summer.
