Unai Emery pens an emotional farewell message for Arsenal fans
The football fraternity received breaking news after Arsenal manager Unai Emery was sacked from his role, following a disappointing performance by the team in 2018-19. As Emery's eventful 18-month reign came to an unfortunate end at the Emirates Stadium, he penned an emotional farewell message, thanking the Arsenal management and fans for the support he had received so far. Here is what he wrote.
Why was Emery sacked?
Emery was sacked following a poor run in the last seven matches, in which Arsenal remained winless. "The decision has been taken due to results and performances not being at the level required," the club said in a statement. Meanwhile, Arsenal owner Josh Kroenke thanked Emery and his team for their unrelenting efforts to make the club get back to the competitive level again.
Emery terms it an honor to manage Arsenal
"It has been an honor to be the Arsenal head coach. To all the fans, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping me to understand and feel the greatness of Arsenal," wrote Emery on Arsenal's official website.
Emery was adamant at achieving higher results
Emery stated that he had worked throughout his tenure at the club with utter passion, commitment, and effort. He was adamant at achieving higher results with the club. "I also want to send a message of gratitude to all Arsenal employees for the way they have treated me. The greatness of Arsenal is in every director, executive, employee, assistant, and volunteer," he noted.
Emery thanks Ivan Gazidis for welcoming him to the club
Emery further went on to thank Ivan Gazidis for welcoming at the club initially, along with Raul Sanllehi, Edu and Vinai Venkatesham for their support, respect, and companionship. "Until the very last minute, I have been treated with honor and honesty. And of course, I send my sincere gratitude to the Kroenke family, for their trust," he continued.
Emery claims to have learnt a lot in England
"I had already experienced a lot in football, but I have enjoyed and learned a lot in England, in the Premier League, about respect for professionals and about the purity of football. My best wishes always. COYG," Emery concluded.
Emery has had an average stint at Arsenal
While Emery might be struggling of late, he has had his second-best managerial stint at Arsenal. In 78 matches so far, he has won 43 and lost 19, with a win percentage of 55.1. Although he has failed to win a single title at the club, he allowed the club to finish as the runners-up in the Europa League last season.
