Arsenal lost defensive structure under Arsene Wenger: Emery
Unai Emery is enjoying a dream with Arsenal till now. He joined the Gunners after the 22-year stint of Arsene Wenger ended, last season. Emery, who has remained unbeaten in 16 games, said that during the later stages of Wenger's run with Arsenal, the team's defensive structure fell apart. He added that he wants to embed both attacking and defensive skills in his team.
We had to rearrange the furniture, says Emery
Emery said that the dressing room went through a thorough remodeling after he joined the Gunners. They reportedly rearranged the furniture in the dressing room to create an impression of a fresh beginning under Emery. He has also removed certain sugary drinks from the club canteen of the Gunners and moved the gym closer to the training ground.
Emery analyzes Wenger's approach
Emery said that under Wenger, Arsenal's earlier defensive approach changed as they became a team with more flair and attacking prowess. He believes the peak of this style was reached during the 'Invincibles' era when Arsenal blended solid defense with beautiful attacking football. However, he stated that the defensive structure slowly began to erode under Wenger in the later stages of his managerial career.
I'm more of a tactical coach: Emery
Emery, himself, admitted that he is a tactical coach rather than a players' coach like Wenger. He said that he does not have the time to analyze players and decide what to do accordingly, something which Wenger liked to do. "What I do is work. I analyze matches and then I transfer it to video and I teach the players," said Emery.
Emery has perfectly blended old and new styles
Emery has perfectly blended the stylish attacking football which Arsenal were previously known for and the high-pressing football of the modern day. Arsenal are masterfully building up attacks with exquisite passing, and also hold their ground firmly in defense. His players have also responded quickly to his style as Arsenal have produced some of the most beautiful football in the Premier League this season.
