Sehwag not eligible to be the India Coach?
With Anil Kumble gone, Virender Sehwag is considered to the front runner in the race for Team India's next coach. However, according to the BCCI's official press release on 25 May, Sehwag might not be eligible for the position as he has not coached an international or a first class cricket team in the past. Let us find out more!
What does the applicant need to have?
According to the advertisement put out by BCCI, one of the conditions is that the candidate applying "should have successfully coached a cricket team of any of the member countries of the ICC, at the first class or at the International level."
Positives of Sehwag as a coach
Virender Sehwag was an unconventional player of cricket who was known for his ability to take risks. This could be one of the biggest positives he would bring as a coach in the current Indian team and mould the youngsters to play cricket freely. His fearlessness and Kohli's aggressiveness might be the key to India ruling the cricketing world.
Are other applicants eligible?
BCCI had put out nine conditions to be fulfilled by the applicants. Some of the major conditions are that the applicant must be versed in English and the latest technology in sports, an impeccable personal record and a ready coaching plan for the team. Other applicants Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput, Richard Pybus and Doda Ganesh fulfill the conditions put out by the BCCI.
Will the CAC overlook the rules once again?
Last year the Cricket Advisory Committee had overlooked such rules so as to bring in Anil Kumble as the coach of the team. A question again arises that whether the same will be done this time too?
