Elavenil wins 10m Air Rifle gold at Junior World Cup
Indian Shooter Elavenil Valarivan won the gold medal in 10m Women's Air Rifle at the first ISSF Junior World Cup of the season in Sydney. Elavenil sealed the win with a decisive 10.7 in her 24th shot, compensating the 9.6 she nailed with her previous one and getting better of Chinese Taipei's Lin Ying-Shin. In last year's Junior World Championship, Elavenil finished at 28.
Elavenil sets new world record at 631.4
The 18-year-old Elavenil, competing in her second World Cup and first final, shot 249.8 in women's final to claim the top individual honors. Her 631.4 in the qualification was a new world record. China's Wang Zeru managed to win bronze with a score of 228.4 in her first World Cup appearance. India's other women finalists viz Shreya and Zeena, finished 6th and 7th respectively.

Elavenil, Shreya Agarwal, and Zeena Khitta also claimed the top spot in team podium taking gold, while Chinese Taipei's Lin, Tsai Yi-Ting, and Hung Chen-Ching secured the second position. The bronze was claimed by Zhu, Wang and Gao Mingwei of China. Elavenil had also won a Bronze medal at the Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) World Shooting Sport Championship last week.
Arjun Babuta wins bronze in men's 10m Air Rifle
Meanwhile, India's Arjun Babuta bagged his second Junior World Cup medal, claiming bronze in men's 10m Air Rifle event. Babuta, a silver medalist at last year's Asian Championship in Wako City, Japan, finished below Yuqi Liu of China (247.1) and Zalan Pekler (246) of Hungary, with a 226.3 score. Other Indian shooters, Surya Pratap Singh and Shahu Tushar Mane, finished 6th and 8th respectively.
