Eden Gardens to name stand after cricket legend Jhulan Goswami
The iconic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata will pay tribute to Indian cricket legend, Jhulan Goswami, by renaming one of its stands after her. The Block B gallery will be officially inaugurated as the 'Jhulan Goswami Stand' on January 22, 2025. This will happen ahead of the 1st T20I between India Women and England Women. Over two years after retiring, Goswami remains the only woman with over 200 wickets in ODI cricket.
Goswami's remarkable career and post-retirement contributions
Goswami, who retired in 2022 after an illustrious career, is one of the finest fast bowlers in women's cricket across formats. She has the record for the most number of wickets in WODIs with a staggering 255 scalps. As mentioned, no other woman has more than 200 WODI wickets. Across formats (Tests, ODIs, and T20Is), Goswami took 355 wickets in her career.
Goswami's post-retirement roles and achievements
Post retirement, Goswami has taken up the role of a bowling coach and mentor for Mumbai Indians in the Women's Premier League (WPL). Her guidance led the team to victory in the inaugural season of WPL. She also served as a team mentor for Trinbago Knight Riders in the Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL), guiding them to the final.
Goswami joins elite group of cricketers at Eden Gardens
Goswami will be part of an elite group of cricketers who have stands in their name at Eden Gardens. This includes former India captain Sourav Ganguly, ex-India international Pankaj Roy, and past BCCI presidents Jagmohan Dalmiya and Biswanath Dutt. The renaming of the stand is a fitting tribute to Goswami's significant contributions to Indian cricket.
