Delhi's Dwarka Cricket Stadium to be ready by September 2027
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has confirmed that construction of the much-anticipated Dwarka Stadium will commence by late 2024. The project, was inaugurated in September 2022 by the former Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, is expected to be completed by September 2027. This state-of-the-art facility is set to become a significant sports hub in the capital city.
Dwarka Stadium: A landmark in Delhi's urban development
The Dwarka Stadium project, spanning 50.4 acres in Dwarka Sector 19B, is a significant milestone for Delhi's urban development. It has been learned that the DDA and real estate firm Omaxe will pair up for this project. This marks DDA's first sports infrastructure project under such a model.
Dwarka Stadium to house a variety of sports facilities
The centerpiece will be an international cricket-cum-football stadium. It will have a seating capacity of 30,000 spectators. However, the facilities are not limited to these sports alone. "It will be an integrated multisports arena with an international cricket-cum-football stadium having a seating capacity of 30,000, indoor multisports facilities with a seating capacity of 2,000," said a DDA official as quoted by TOI.
Dwarka Stadium to offer club memberships and public access
The stadium has 3,000 club memberships to offer in addition to catering to the general public. The official stated that the facility will operate on a pay-and-play basis, allowing non-members access for a minimum of 25% of the capacity of the facilities. "All sports facilities developed on the site will be available for users without requiring membership," the official added.
