Shreyas Iyer reflects on his aggressive half-century in Duleep Trophy
Shreyas Iyer, the skipper of India D, has expressed satisfaction with his aggressive half-century against India C in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024. Despite a disappointing performance in the first innings, Iyer bounced back strongly by scoring 54 runs off just 44 deliveries in the second innings. His counter-attack, which included nine boundaries and one six, shifted the momentum back toward India D.
Iyer's strategy against India C's bowlers
In the post-match discussion, Iyer acknowledged the skill of India C's bowlers and the challenging conditions they created. He stated, "It was necessary for me to show intent because their bowlers were bowling great, in the right areas and the ball was seaming as well." His strategy was to launch an attack and aim for a decent total on board.
Iyer's half-century went in vain
Despite Iyer's impressive 54 and Devdutt Padikkal's contribution of 56, India D were unable to clinch victory. India C emerged victorious by four wickets, with openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (46) and Sai Sudharsan (42) providing a strong start. This was followed by significant contributions from Aryan Juyal (47) and Rajat Patidar (44), while Abhishek Porel added an unbeaten 35 to seal the win for their team.
Iyer praises Saransh Jain's performance despite pitch conditions
Iyer also commented on the pitch conditions, noting that they were not particularly favorable for spinners. However, he praised Saransh Jain's performance who managed to take four wickets in the second innings. "The pitch did not offer much, there was no spin for the bowlers. Saransh bowled in great areas," Iyer said, highlighting Jain's skillful adaptation to challenging conditions.
