Duleep Trophy: Saransh Jain completes 100 First-Class wickets with four-fer
Albeit in a losing cause, all-rounder Saransh Jain delivered a fine spell for India D in the fourth innings of the 2024 Duleep Trophy opener against India C. The off-spinner claimed four wickets as Team C had a hard time while chasing 233 in Anantapur. With his second wicket, Saransh also completed 100 First-Class wickets. Here we look at his stats.
A stunning spell from Saransh
Saransh broke a 64-run opening stand between Ruturaj Gaikwad (46) and Sai Sudharsan (22) by dismissing the latter. He soon trapped Gaikwad as well. At 165/2, India C were cruising when Saransh sent back the well-set Rajat Patidar (44). Baba Indrajith (7) was his final victim as Team C lost four wickets inside 26 runs. They, however, eventually prevailed by four wickets.
100 FC wickets for Saransh
As per ESPNcricinfo, Saransh finished with 4/92 across 22 overs. He dismissed two batters in his first outing as well. Having played 32 FC matches, the 31-year-old has raced to 102 wickets, averaging around 25. The tally includes seven four-fers and four five-wicket hauls. With the bat, he has scored 1,263 at 29-plus (50s: 7, 100: 1).
How did the game pan out?
Axar Patel's 86 was the saving grace for India D in their score of 164. Vijaykumar Vyshak claimed three wickets for India C. In response, Baba Indrajith's 72 was crucial for India C, who managed 168. Harshit Rana claimed 4/33. Fifties from Shreyas Iyer and Devdutt Padikkal saw India D score 236. Manav Suthar claimed 7/49. India C held their nerves to win (233/6).
