Rinku Singh to join India B for Duleep Trophy 2024
Rinku Singh is set to join India B for the remaining matches of the Duleep Trophy 2024 season. The 26-year-old has an impressive First-Class record with 3,173 runs from 47 games at an average of 54.70. Despite this, he was not initially selected for the tournament. Singh was previously playing for Meerut Mavericks in the ongoing UPT20 League where he scored 210 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 161.54.
Singh's leadership skills and upcoming match
Singh demonstrated his leadership skills by guiding Meerut to victory in eight out of their 10 matches in the UPT20 League. He will now depart from his UP T20 team to join India B in Bengaluru, ahead of their second match scheduled for September 12. Despite his initial disappointment at not being selected for the first game, Singh expressed his excitement about this opportunity.
Singh's reaction to Duleep Trophy call-up
In a conversation with The Times of India, Singh shared his feelings about the late call-up. "My job is to work hard, and I am extremely delighted to have received the call for Duleep Trophy," he said. He added that he felt disheartened when not initially selected but is now more elated than ever to represent India B in this prestigious tournament.
India B's performance in opener
In the Duleep Trophy's opening game, India B triumphed over A by 76 runs, with Musheer Khan's 181 runs in the first innings earning him the Player of the Match title. In the second innings, Sarfaraz Khan made 46 runs while Rishabh Pant contributed 61. Additionally, four players from India B - Yashasvi Jaiswal, Pant, Sarfaraz and Yash Dayal - have been selected for India's upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh starting on September 19.
