Can Bishnoi replace Chahal in Team India? Bhajji opines
India's young teenage sensation Ravi Bishnoi was a standout performer in the recently-concluded ICC U-19 World Cup. Bishnoi helped India reach the finale and bowled his heart out to keep the side in the game. However, Bangladesh trumped India to win their maiden title. Former Indian legend Harbhajan Singh has shared his opinion regarding Bishnoi. Here's more.
Don't compare Bishnoi with anyone, says Bhajji
According to The Times of India, Bhajji was asked on whether Bishnoi can replace wrist-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the senior team. Bhajji responded by saying, "Don't compare Bishnoi with anyone. I would like to see him grow as time goes by. He has done well and now he needs to think how to take a step further."
Bishnoi was superb in the U-19 World Cup 2020
Leg-spinner Bishnoi finished the tournament with 17 wickets. He is now the most successful Indian bowler in an edition of the tournament. The spinner got past the likes of Anukul Roy, Kuldeep Yadav, Abhishek Sharma and Shalabh Srivastava (14 wickets each). He finished as the highest wicket-taker in the ICC U-19 World Cup 2020. On Sunday, Bishnoi had figures worth 4/30.
Bhajji wants Bishnoi to perform consistently next
"A lot depends on how he (Bishnoi) will perform in the IPL and at the Ranji Trophy level. If he performs consistently there, he will surely be considered. But I would like to see him bowl more leg-spin rather than the googlies," Harbhajan added.
It's bizarre to think Bishnoi should replace Chahal
Chahal has been prominent in Team India ranks and was recently seen in the ODI series against New Zealand. He claimed six scalps in two ODIs and impressed at large. Prior to that, he featured in all the T20Is against the Kiwis. Chahal took two wickets in a series that saw Indian pacers dominate. He is just 29 and has plenty to offer.
