#IndiaInEngland: Will Dinesh Karthik shine against England?
For the first time in this decade, Dinesh Karthik is set to play a Test series on foreign soil for India. 2007 was magical for DK, as he had amassed three half-centuries, against England, to help India win the 3-match series 1-0. In 2018, he has an opportunity to seal a permanent spot in India's red ball squad. Can he stake a claim?
DK has worked hard to land up this opportunity
DK comes into the set-up after an injury forced Wriddhiman Saha to sit out. With Parthiv Patel not performing well against South Africa, Karthik was the obvious choice. His form in the Nidahas Trophy and 2018 IPL kept him in the radar of the selection committee. Nobody can doubt his batting skills in shorter formats but can he endure the pains of 5-day cricket?
Karthik's composure can do him wonders
Karthik scored a fine looking 82 against Essex in the warm-up game and his past experience in England can be of massive help for skipper Kohli. He is in fine touch with the bat and his composure can do him wonders. The Indian management can also promote him up the order in order to protect a struggling Cheteshwar Pujara.
DK's influence in the middle-order a massive boost
India's middle-order remains a concern since only skipper Kohli and Karthik are in form. The likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Pujara have found it tough and the top order also looks unsure. Therefore, DK's performance in this series can turn the tide in India's favor.
What Karthik said ahead of the first Test
Karthik stated that he is excited but nervous as well going into the series. In an interview, DK said, "Playing in England is a great challenge, and like any other player, I am as excited as I can be." He recalled that the 2007 series was the highlight of his career and said there is a lot of positive energy this time around.
