Novak Djokovic pens an emotional letter about mental hurdles
Wimbledon 2018 champion, Novak Djokovic, has written an open letter on his website about the mental hurdles he faced over the last few years. This month, the Serbian superstar claimed his 13th Grand Slam, after beating Kevin Anderson in the final. Djokovic, who was earlier thinking about skipping the 2018 Wimbledon, defied all hurdles and showed why he is a modern day legend.
A 13th Grand Slam!
What did Djokovic write in his letter?
Djokovic wrote that watching his son in his wife's arms, during the trophy presentation ceremony, was the best feeling he has ever had in his career. The former world number one, then, spoke about the elbow injury he had suffered, which kept him out of action for months. He added that injury was only one issue, the other big problem was lack of motivation.
When Novak wasn't patient enough with expectations
The champion player cited that, in the last two years, he wasn't patient enough with the expectations he set for himself. And that led to wrong strategies, as he kept looking for solutions elsewhere, before realizing the real solution is inside him. Djokovic doubted whether he will be able to reach the level he once enjoyed, but he has now found the direction.
A tough period for Djoker before Wimbledon win
Prior to the Wimbledon 2018 win, Djokovic had last won a Slam in 2016. The elbow injury and his doubts came in to hamper his progression. In a career spanning 12 years, his ranking was at its lowest during this phase. From changing coaches to faltering at tourneys, Djokovic lost his composure. But he went back to the locker room and addressed the issues.
