The incident occurred while the team was staying at a luxary resort, Sun City, located in South Africa's northwest province. Karthik's eerie encounter took place during the South Africa A team Tri-Series in 2013, which also featured Australia along with India. The Indian team was led by Cheteshwar Pujara at that time and emerged victorious in the ODI series by defeating Australia in the final. "When we were staying in Sun City, I felt something awkward and weird moving in the room," Karthik revealed during a conversation on Cricbuzz.
Karthik represented India in 2007 T20 WC held in SA
It is worth noting that Karthik was also part of India's 2007 ICC T20 World Cup title-winning squad, which reigned supreme in South Africa. He earned praise for his incredible catch to dismiss then South Africa captain Graeme Smith.
Karthik to join Paarl Royals in SA20 tournament
In another development, Karthik is set to join the Paarl Royals as an overseas player for the upcoming SA20 starting, January 9. This will be first time an Indian player will participate in the South African T20 league. Despite his retirement, Karthik remains active in cricket and was last seen playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024. He also retired from the IPL following the 2024 season.
Karthik's new role with RCB
Post retirement, Karthik has taken on a new role as mentor-cum-batting coach for the Royal Challengers. He is recognized as one of the most strategic minds in T20 cricket due to his extensive experience in this format. Before retiring, Karthik spent his final three IPL seasons as a player with RCB. He had been a part of five other IPL teams.
