Dinesh Karthik makes prediction ahead of Border-Gavaskar Trophy
The Indian cricket team is gearing up for a five-match Test series against Australia, set to commence on November 22. The opening match of the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will take place in Perth. Following this, Adelaide Oval will host a day-night Test from December 6. The remaining three matches are scheduled for Brisbane (December 14-18), Melbourne (December 26-30), and Sydney (January 3-7).
India's track record and Karthik's prediction
India has triumphed in the last two editions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy held on Australian soil. Under Rohit Sharma's leadership, the team aims to secure a third consecutive victory. However, former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik believes that Australia hold an advantage in this five-match series. He stated on Cricbuzz's HeyCB with DK show, "I do think Australia have the upper hand."
Karthik's views on India's potential victory
Karthik further emphasized the difficulty India may face in achieving a third consecutive series win. He stated, "It's going to be very hard for India to beat them on Australian shores for the third time on the bounce." Despite this, he acknowledged that if India do manage to secure a victory, it would be one of their most significant achievements in cricket history.
Australia's performance against India in recent years
Australia have not won a Test series against India since their victory in the 2014-15 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In the most recent Test series between these two teams in India (February-March 2023), Sharma's team defeated Australia in the first two matches within three days each, taking a 2-0 lead. However, Australia managed to win the third match and drew the fourth at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, resulting in a series loss by a margin of 1-2.
Australia's redemption in World Test Championship final
Despite their series loss to India, Australia redeemed themselves by defeating Sharma's team in the 2023 World Test Championship final. The match took place at the Oval from June 9 to 13, where Pat Cummins's men dominated India by a significant margin of 210 runs. This victory marked a significant turnaround for the Australian team after their previous losses against India.
