India's Neeraj Chopra finished second in men's javelin throw at the 2024 Lausanne Diamond League. Chopra, who won the silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics recently, produced a season best throw of 89.49m in the last round to finish second. Peters pips Chopra in thrilling final attempt
A season's best throw for Chopra ensured him a top-two finish at another major event. Despite falling short of the 90m mark, Chopra's monstrous throw 89.49m saw him finish second in the standings. It was a thrilling finale with Peters saving his best for the last. Final standings: Anderson Peters (Grenada) - 90.61m, Neeraj Chopra (India) - 89.49m, Julian Weber (Germany) - 87.08m.
Anderson breaks the competition's record with 90.61m throw
A 90.61m throw in his final attempt saw Peters break the previous record of 90.16m held by Keshorn Walcott in 2015. The one-time Olympic medalist is also a two-time gold medal winner at the World Championships.
Chopra bagged silver medal in 2024 Paris
Chopra had earlier won the silver medal in men's javelin throw final at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Chopra came into the 2024 Paris Olympics on the back of a gold medal win at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem made history with a record throw of 92.97m. Meanwhile, Anderson won the bronze medal with a throw of 88.54m.
Chopra eyeing another Diamond League medal
In August 2022, Chopra scripted history by winning the gold medal at the Diamond League, held in Lausanne. He clocked a monster 89.08m throw. In 2023, Chopra won the Doha Diamond League with a world-leading effort of 88.67m on his first attempt at the Qatar Sports Club.
