Yash Dhull returns to cricket after heart surgery: Details here
Yash Dhull, the young cricketer who led India to victory in the 2022 ICC U-19 World Cup, has made a successful return to competitive cricket following minor heart surgery. The top-order batter underwent this procedure in early July, as revealed by his long-time coach Rajesh Nagar. The medical issue was identified during a routine scan at the U-23 high performance camp held at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Dhull's recovery and return to cricket
Nagar informed that the surgery was not major and Dhull took approximately 10 to 15 days for recovery. "He is not 100% at the moment in terms of his game and fitness, I would say he is about 80% but good enough," Nagar told PTI. The small hole in Dhull's heart, typically a congenital defect, was only discovered during his time at NCA in June-July.
BCCI's role in Dhull's medical journey
Upon detection of the heart defect, the NCA's medical team recommended immediate surgery. The operation was carried out in Delhi with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ensuring Dhull received top-notch care and closely monitoring his recovery. "It was a small hole and has been there since birth but it was detected now. He will be back to his best very soon," added Nagar.
Dhull's performance post-surgery
Currently, Dhull is representing Central Delhi Kings in the inaugural Delhi Premier League. He has scored 93 runs in five innings with a strike rate of 113.41 and a top score of 52. Despite experiencing significant ups and downs in his professional cricket career at just 21, Dhull remains determined to give his best on the field.
Dhull's career highlights and future prospects
Dhull made his Ranji Trophy debut in February 2022, scoring two centuries in his first-class debut against Tamil Nadu. However, he was later removed as Delhi's captain following a loss to Puducherry in the 2024 Ranji Trophy opener. In 23 First-Class games, Dhull has smashed 1,610 runs at 44.72. He has 5 tons and five fifties. Despite limited opportunities in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and questions about his technique, Dhull remains optimistic about his future in cricket.
