Duleep Trophy: Dhruv Jurel emulates MS Dhoni's wicket-keeping record
India A wicket-keeper, Dhruv Jurel, has matched a long-standing record set by former Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni for most catches in a Duleep Trophy innings. The record was equaled during a match against India B at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday. Jurel took as many as seven catches in the second innings, contributing significantly to India A's strategy of restricting their opponents to just 184 runs.
Jurel's key dismissals in record-equaling performance
Jurel played a crucial role in the dismissals of several key players from India B. His catches led to dismissals of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Musheer Khan, Sarfaraz Khan, Nitish K Reddy, Sai Kishore, and Navdeep Saini. This outstanding performance placed him alongside Dhoni and Sunil Benjamin as the wicket-keepers with most dismissals (seven) in a single innings of Duleep Trophy.
A look at previous record holders
Dhoni had previously set this record by taking seven catches against Central Zone while representing East Zone in the 2004/05 season. Before Dhoni, the record was held by Sunil Benjamin, who recorded six catches and a stumping for Central Zone against North Zone in the 1973 Duleep Trophy final. Now, Jurel joins these cricketing stalwarts in holding this prestigious record.
How the match has panned out
