MS Dhoni to begin IPL 2020 training from March 1
Speculations have constantly shrouded the future of MS Dhoni since India's World Cup semi-final loss to New Zealand. With still no clarity on his international career, the former Indian captain will be seen leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming IPL edition, starting on March 29. According to sources, Dhoni will commence his training earlier this time around. Here's more.
Dhoni to start an early training
"He is expected to arrive on March 1. He will probably train for a couple of weeks before going back for 4-5 days and then coming back once again closer to the start of the IPL," sources close to the development told TOI.
Dhoni hasn't featured for India since conclusion of CWC19
Dhoni began his two-week stint with the Indian Army in Kashmir following the World Cup exit. He also made himself unavailable for West Indies tour and Bangladesh home T20Is. With chief selector MSK Prasad's "moving on" remark, Dhoni hasn't been at the helm of affairs. This also led to his axing from the list of centrally contracted players recently.
Dhoni was terrific in IPL 2018 and 2019 respectively
While Dhoni led CSK to a third IPL title in 2018, the yellow army fell short of one run to win the final in the following season. In 2018, he scored 455 runs from 15 matches at an average of 75.83. However, his average climbed to 83.20 in 2019. Besides, the upcoming IPL edition will decide the plight of Dhoni's international career.
Dhoni would want to make the most of IPL campaign
Fitness has never been an area of concern with Dhoni, but he still has to get in the groove following a long exile. The 38-year-old is expected to start his training in the first week of March, while the official IPL camp starts from March 10. He will look to iron the chinks and stake his claim at the all-important stage.
Will Dhoni be seen in Indian colors post IPL?
If Dhoni manages to have a sound IPL 2020 campaign, he could flirt with the possibility of making himself available for Team India. Perhaps, one would hope to see him bow out with a bang.
