Records which MS Dhoni can script in 2019 World Cup
MS Dhoni is all set to feature in his fourth ICC World Cup and it looks like this would be his final appearance in the coveted event. The veteran Indian wicket-keeper batsman will be raring to have a crack in England and Wales in the upcoming 2019 World Cup. Here we look at the records which MSD could script in this edition.
Dhoni could surpass 1,000-run mark in World Cup
Dhoni has been in outstanding form in 2019. The experienced wicket-keeper batsman has managed 327 runs in nine matches this year, which includes four fifties. One feels Dhoni will be among the runs in the 2019 World Cup. MSD has scored 507 runs in 20 World Cup games. He needs 493 runs to surpass the 1,000-run mark and join Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.
Dhoni could script these feats
If India reach the finale, they will be playing 11 matches in total. Dhoni, who has three World Cup fifties, needs six more to surpass Mohammad Azharuddin. Azhar amassed eight and is only behind Tendulkar (15). India will play nine matches in the group stage. That will see Dhoni get to 29 and be the fourth highest for India in terms of matches played.
Dhoni in search of these records as well
Dhoni's best score in the World Cup is 91*, which he had achieved in 2011 World Cup final. If MSD manages to hit a century this time, then he will join a host of Indian players to have amassed this feat. If India win the World Cup, MSD and Virat Kohli will be the only Indian players with two title wins under their belt.
Dhoni has a major role to play for India
Dhoni will be looking to exert his influence both in batting and as the keeper. One expects Kohli to take maximum help from the former Indian captain. Dhoni will be needed to guide the bowlers on the field and be decisive with the field placement.
