Dhoni will play an important role in World Cup: Yuvraj
Yuvraj Singh has heaped praise on former Indian cricket team skipper MS Dhoni and believes that the veteran will be crucial for the Men in Blue in the ICC World Cup 2019. The ICC World Cup is set to start from May 30 onwards in England and Wales. Notably, Dhoni has been in superb form, this year and Yuvraj highlighted his importance.
Dhoni has a great cricket brain, said Yuvraj
Yuvi praised Dhoni's overall contribution to this side. "I think Mahi (Dhoni) has a great cricket brain. As a wicket-keeper, you are in the best position to monitor the game and he has done that fantastically over the years. He has been a great captain. (He's) with the young players and guiding Virat (Kohli) all the time," said the southpaw.
MS Dhoni showed his class against the Aussies last month
Dhoni struggled with the bat in 2018 as he scored only 275 runs in 20 ODIs. He recorded the worst average and strike-rate since 2005. Dhoni, who did not play much prior to the series against Australia, scored 51, 55* and 87* in the three matches. He helped India win the series with match-winning knocks in Adelaide and Melbourne.
Dhoni is important in decision making: Yuvi
"I feel his presence is very important in decision-making. He had a fantastic tournament in Australia, and it is good to see him hit the ball how he used to do. I wish him all the best," said Yuvi.
Dhoni is still a champion player despite criticism
Dhoni was criticized last year for not living up to the billing and several fans, media houses and pundits questioned his place in the team. Indian fans in England booed him during the ODI series back in July 2018. Many felt that Dhoni should not be considered for the ICC World Cup squad. But his recent form shows he is still a champion player.
Dhoni is India's best bet going into the World Cup
Dhoni is India's best bet in the middle order. He is the pillar of this side. The veteran adds a lot both as a batsman and behind the stumps. Players in the team, including vice-captain Rohit Sharma, have often highlighted his importance.
