Kohli already close to becoming a legend: MS Dhoni
The most successful Indian cricket captain of all time, MS Dhoni, has nothing but words of praise for his successor Virat Kohli. Dhoni, who was at Mumbai recently to announce a 25 percent stake in sports technology company Run Adam, congratulated Kohli on becoming the number one Test batsman. He added that Kohli is close to becoming a legend.
Dhoni's comments on Indian skipper Kohli
Dhoni said, "Kohli is the best, he has already at the status where is close to being a legend...very happy for him and the way he has batted everywhere, and the last few years it has just been brilliant. He keeps taking the team forward."
Captain Cool praises India's bowling performances
Dhoni believes it is a positive aspect that Indian bowlers are being able to bowl out their opponents. According to him, taking 20 wickets is essential for winning 5-day matches. The World Cup winning captain said, "It doesn't matter how you bat, how you are on five days in the field. It is by taking 20 wickets you can win a Test."
Dhoni explains his act of taking the match ball
In the same press conference, MS Dhoni has also put to rest the long-standing speculation over him taking the match ball from the umpires after the last ODI match against England. Many believed it signalled that he would retire soon. However, Dhoni said that he had done so to show the bowling coach Bharat Arun how to generate reverse swing.
Kohli's Test ranking and Indian Test team's status
After his thunderous 149 and 51 at Edgbaston in the first Test, Virat Kohli ended Australian Steve Smith's 32-month reign as the number 1 Test batsman in the world. He is 5 points ahead of Smith and will have to keep up his form to hold on to his position. Meanwhile, India will face England at Lord's from August 9.
